Dick Bruna frequently contributed his abilities as a graphic designer and the power of his illustrations in service to society. He designed many posters for charities and worthy causes such as Terre des Hommes (which helps disadvantaged children worldwide), The Red Cross, Het Groene Kruis (a maternity care organisation), UNICEF, Nationale Boomfeestdag (Dutch National Tree Planting Day), SOS Kinderdorpen (a relief organisation for orphans), and the Ronald McDonald House. He also created murals for the children’s wards of various hospitals and contributed to special publications, including books for children undergoing neurological treatment and children with impaired hearing.
